The file

Around 2000 Prada sold a small curved nylon shoulder bag that every fashionable person on earth seemed to carry, and around 2005 the house discontinued it as handbags inflated in size. That should have been the end of the file. Instead, when the Y2K revival arrived, Prada did something close to unprecedented: it reissued its own archive by name, launching the Re-Edition line in 2019 with the years built into the titles. The Re-Edition 2005 is the flagship, the original hobo's silhouette in Re-Nylon with a chain strap, a removable pouch, and a crossbody strap; the slimmer Re-Edition 2000 and the longer 2006 are its siblings. The numbers are archival years, not sizes, a fact half the listings on any marketplace get wrong.

The Re-Edition promptly became one of the most copied bags in the world, which makes its file a two-front problem: counterfeits of the revival, and original-era 2000s bags sold as things they are not, in both directions. The original run is its own model file on this site, and which one is being sold is the first question of any listing.

FROM THE FILE

The most faked small bag of its era. Original-run and Re-Edition are different objects at different money, and the words in the listing settle nothing: the pouch, the chain, the fabric weave, and the interior tag format are what separate the generations, and the fakes, from the record.

Before you bid: the checklist

  • Generation first. Chain strap, removable pouch, and Re-Nylon weave mean the 2019-on revival; their absence points to the original run, which is the predecessor file on this site.
  • The numbers are years. 2000, 2005 and 2006 name archive years, not dimensions. A seller using them as sizes has not read their own bag.
  • Hardware weight and enamel. The triangle and chain on a genuine example carry real weight and clean enamel; light hardware and gritty logo edges are the copy announcing itself.

Authentication doctrine

CODE ≠ AUTHENTIC
READ BEFORE BIDDING

Prada encodes no dates. The white interior number tags identify style and factory, the plaques identify the house, and nothing on a Prada bag encodes when it was made - so this maison gets no dating tool, and any guide selling a Prada date decoder is decoding something that does not exist. The doctrine here is materials and construction: pocone and Re-Nylon have a dense matte hand no fake fabric matches, saffiano's cross-hatch must be uniform under raking light, spazzolato shows directional brushing, and plaque engraving quality still separates the superfakes. Recent models should keep their authenticity cards, and for any serious purchase, route through a platform authentication program: eBay physically inspects qualifying handbags.
