The file

Le Cagole, introduced in 2021, is the motorcycle line quoted rather than revived: the studs, buckles, mirror, and lariats of the 2000s turned up to costume volume on a new crescent silhouette. It arrived exactly when the Y2K resale boom was pricing original Cities upward, and it served as the bridge product, proof the house had noticed, three years before the actual revival. The file's lineage renders it accordingly: a sibling derived from the City, not its successor.

As a current-production bag its record is short and its market question simple: it is heavily counterfeited, its hardware volume gives fakes many places to fail, and recent bags should travel with their paperwork.

FROM THE FILE

An ode, not a revival, and the file's lineage says so. Buy it as a current bag: complete set, crisp hardware casting, and the season letter agreeing with the claimed year.

Before you bid: the checklist

  • Sibling, not successor. Le Cagole quotes the City; Le City revives it. A seller's timeline that calls Le Cagole the City's return is reciting the lineage wrong.
  • Hardware casting is the tell. The oversized studs and buckles on a genuine example are heavy with clean edges; light, gritty, or misaligned castings end the exam.
  • Recent bag, complete set. 2021-onward production should keep its cards and dust bag; absence is a discount, not a mystery.

Authentication doctrine

CODE ≠ AUTHENTIC
READ BEFORE BIDDING

Balenciaga dating runs on the season letter: from Fall/Winter 2003 the tag carries a letter that maps to a half-year, running backwards through the alphabet, and because the alphabet has cycled, most letters now mean two possible seasons, split by tag features - metal plate or leather-only, the letter repeated on the tag back from Fall 2012, the color-code line from 2010, the large MADE IN ITALY from 2011. Production before Fall 2003 carries no letter at all, so a letterless tag on an early bag is correct, not suspicious. The style number must match front and back of the tag, the leather is thin and matte where fakes run thick and shiny, and the hardware families have birthdays of their own. The season letter decoder on this site handles the whole system, cycle ambiguity included.
